Critique Week the First

Tue Dec 8, 2009, 7:47 PM
  • Mood: Pirate
  • Listening to: Autoclav1.1
  • Drinking: Coffee always
So, nearing the end of first semester at SAIC. I already have a strange sense of how fucking quickly 2 years is going to go. I don't know how I feel quite, 'bout Chicago, but I do know that I don't want two years of my life to.... "poof!" So it's critique week, which means, no regular classes but everyone is going through their own personal panel discussion. Mine isn't until the end of the week. So... the first few pages of what I'm working on have been given to the people comprising my panel and I kinda just suddenly noticed feeling sort of paused

so after geramie eats his bukkit o ramen
i might hopefully try to record audio for some of these pieces in shrot tracks

CVS has the loop cornered.

plan on showing the world abandon?

--
I can't get lost, I don't know why..
:iconsighingecho:
Not on here. I put too much into that to have anyone try to tell me it's already published 'cause it's posted on the internet. Also, it would completely fuck up the formatting, which I would frustrating and upsetting. What I need to do now is find out how one gets an agent to speak to publishing companies about Abandon on my behalf. I'm not gonna self-publish, 'cause I'm not a good salesperson.

:iconshufflng:
Legitimate. Let me know what you learn about agents.

:iconshufflng:
also your ability to describe society as the omniscient narrator exceeds you ability to use conversation, otherwise i'm just not interested in the dialogs of druggies. it may just be your whiney character, and if so kudos. i hate him as much as your protagonist does.

:iconsighingecho:
the dialog of junkies/those enveloped in the drug world, is route to certain extent. keeping that in mind--anyone my protagonist finds distasteful...well don't book any flights with them anyway. it's probably not only the absorption with drugs that is underlining this distaste. i do have some whiny characters, especially in book 2. get quite a lot of caricatures in Book 3. can't make the dialog more intelligent than the character.

abandon book 2 about forty minutes in,"next thing you know i'll be (going) down that hospital-esque hallway". eliminate the esque from the conversation. it's doesn't flow well.

:iconsighingecho:
perhaps. that's a really almost oddly particular comment. i wonder what you have against the 'esques.?' I'm curious what kind of character you think might use that term anyway?

:iconshufflng:
a pretentious character. one who talks like me. i'll give it another listen, but the esque seemed out of place. i think he'll sound smarter by way of sounding wittier and more poetic more naturally without the added esque. otherwise he sounds pseudo intellectual.

:iconsighingecho:
(shrugs) the esque stays.
thank you though.
